Welcome to my blog....

Wow, I did it! I used to think I was very computer savvy however after trying to set up this blog......not so sure.

I must admit, this approach to active learning and engaging with other students is extremely new to me however I am very open to the experience and welcome the guidance and tips of others (please :-)). I in turn will provide as much valuable input into your blogs and contributions as I can, hopefully we can all get through this on a positive note – and with high grade!

I am a full-time working mother of 2 daughters.  My working background has predominately been in the government sector (health) and I have recently made the move to mining.  So out went the high heels and in with the T-boots!

So again, everyone welcome to my blog and I look forward to learning from you all.

Megan

  1. Hi Megan,

Wow, you have already looked at your listed company's annual reports, that's quick, I thought I was early but looks like there's more than a dozen of us already starting our assignments.

I think it is fun that we can have an accounting blog, didn't see that coming, I was a bit overwhelmed earlier, but now after reading my text book and online chapters, I'm beginning to understand. I still am at a crawling pace but will definitely hit the ground running once I get the hang of things. Accounting isn't as boring as I thought and the scariness of it is diminishing.

I'm also a mum of 1 daughter who is at kindergarten at this stage, which gives me more time to do Uni, and I have also started a casual role here at CQU just this week as student ambassador, this is my first year which means I'll be learning as I go along and at the moment, may not be able to answer any Uni questions yet (LOL).

    How are you liking mining?
Is it as blokey as we see in the movie - Red Dog?

Looking forward to chatting and hope to hear back soon.

    Cheers,
    Anna Towan

  3. Thanks everyone for looking taking the time to look at my blog - which I have neglected for a few weeks now :-|...

Anna in response to your question - yes I absolutely love working in the resource and mining sector. The opportunities and facilities available are second to none. I have moved from bauxite and aluminium over to iron ore - and drive past the home of Red Dog every day, lol! (seriously). Originally I was the only women in a department of about 50 men but they all treated me with the utmost respect and took the time to teach me about the plant - amazing bunch of guys.

Now I work in a department where the men are the minority!! I work closely with the General Manager who also happens to be one of the most inspiring women I have met.

I have to knuckle down and catch up on this course and checking out the progress of everyone's blogs.

  6. Megan ... I am sO enjoying reading you blog ... you are having great 'light bulb' moments as you develop new insights into what accounting is about ... a key issue we are looking at in this course is can accounting help, or perhaps hinder, us to better connect to and understand the economic and business realities of our firm ... are our firm's accounts telling as a 'story' that management want us to hear ... or are they giving us a window into what is actually going on...? ... I have reposted my comment, Megan ... :)
